Suzuki Shogun 110 Shindengen CDI |
Okay … need to say if this is not a how-to , in this article I will only tell you about my experience about repairing my Suzuki Shogun Shindengen CDI ☺.
A month ago, suddenly this Shogun
CDI just died for no apparent reason. Yeah, that not an important problem to me because I still have a backup CDI. However, this reserves CDI do not work perfectly, so I finally dismantle this Suzuki Shogun CDI. Although then it turned out to be my carburetor who had problems.Yes but it does not really matter, anyway I had dismantle the Shogun CDI and even had it fixed ☺

Thinner |
On Sunday morning, I buy Thinner. I went to a hardware store near the house, and buy the cheapest paint thinner ND brand ☺ with price Rp 7000 (about 0,8 USD) a bottle. Then I go back home and look for cans in the warehouse. Cans of baby milk Bebelac seemed appropriate. All Thinner in a bottle I poured into the cans, and then I put into the can the CDI, I cover it tightly and let it there for two days.

CDI Box |
Two days passed, it’s time to see the CDI. After two days of soaking, the rubber on the CDI was peeling. But it turns out, the CDI still having a hard solid protector, typical shindengen CDI . O
kay, may be forced a little, and then solid protector was taken out.
Too bad, because it had resulted in damage to the imposition of several components that are attached to carry over the solid layer. So I’m not do further forcing. Soak in paint thinner also make pcb layer becomes oxidized and corrosion.
As shown in the figure, only a small fraction of the solid layer that can be peeled off, and others still as before.
There are three components that damaged, the 2n5401 transistors, capacitors that are not tracked in value because of damage, and resistor 4k7.
The checking began. One by one component checked with careful, ranging from the transistor, SCR, resistors, diodes and transformer. I don’t really check the capacitor because I don’t have the tester.
The result, was found two dead transistors, one diode damaged, and two broken resistors. Now the problem also arises, I can not buy the components into an electronics store because there is no vehicle to ride, so I began hunting stock components in my home.
So replacement began. 2n5401 transistor replaced by bc558 and the transistor bc128 replaced with 2n5551. 2n5401 Transistor is used for drive SCR , so basically do not require any high voltage rating, and bc558 seems quite appropriate. There are only two stocks pnp transistors bc558 and a733, and I choose bc558 because of the composition legs could follow 2n5401. While transistor bc128 taken from fluorescent light, which I happen to have unloading it long before. It serves as a inverter driver transistor oscillator ~ 300 Volt.
Then later resistor power supply for the transistor that dead, this resistor is still shrouded in solid protector, and it is impossible to determine the value. And adjust with the existing stock, I replace it with 100 ohm resistor. 4k7 ohm resistors are mounted on the rear end PCB. Then a diode which is likely to be a zener diode. Same as before, it is impossible to determine the diode value except just assume it, because that I tried as much as possible maintaining the original diode, with a connecting cable.
After all checks, it’s time to test. And the result CDI works normal. But after some time one transistor is dead again, seemingly because of age, a lot of CDI components that have rusted and easily broken.
Okay, after the transistor replaced with the stock bc128 CDI was back to normal. It’s time to close the CDI back with sealer.
The following is circuit schemes of CDI Shindengen Suzuki Shogun (Unlimiter) that I can take. Many components are not tracked because it is still shrouded in a protective layer, so what is written here is the best that I can get ☺.

Schematic Circuit CDI Shindengen Suzuki Shogun |
As we can see this CDI uses transistor, not IC, and this CDI do not have a limiter. However, this CDI also has no timing settings (period) as the IC. Well … it seems there is no ivory that isn’t cracked ☺
